Diary of dates for the Summer Term Re-Opening Ceremony 22nd April 2009 Pupils, parents, staff and governors both past and present enjoyed speeches by Mrs Janet Mills our Headteacher, Henry Hobhouse Local Councillor and David Heath MP. We were all delighted with the announcement that we will have a new school in Queen Camel on a flood-free site! The children sang 'One More Step', the ribbon was cut, everyone got to see our newly refubished and decorated school and the children tucked in to party food. What a celebration! SCC Press Release Thursday 18th December
'The school was inundated with flood water on the 13th December. Because of the seriousness of the flooding the school was forced to close. Officers from Somerset County Council, Rainbow International and Rok have been working alongside staff and community helpers to remove damaged furniture and equipment. De-humidifiers have been brought in to dry out the buildings in order to make sure the time lost for the children’s education is kept to the minimum. Somerset County Council has arranged for a double temporary classroom to be installed and the head teacher has confirmed that the Key Stage Two children can return to school on the 6th of January. During the first part of January two of the classrooms will be refurbished and the Key Stage One pupils will be able to return to school on January 12th. Other parts of the main buildings will then be refurbished and it is hoped that the school will be back to normal by the February ½term break. The combined team work of school staff, community helpers, contractors and Somerset County Council officers has ensured that the distressing damage to the school has been minimised and education restored in Queen Camel in the shortest possible time.'
Could children please make sure that they wear a coat to school and bring wellies every day because we will be going for local walks as part of our project work.
The Governors and Staff would like to thank members of the local community for their quick response to help reduce the potential damage.
We would also like to thank members of staff and the local community who have been working hard over the last few days to clear classrooms so that carpets can be removed and floors dried out.
The Sherborne Town Band Concert took place as planned on Thursday evening, in the Church. We all enjoyed a fantastic evening of Christmas entertainment and it was good to see so many parents, children and members of the local community.
